2018 Joan of Arc Festival (Fêtes Johanniques): Joan, Universal Faces – Season 3 “Emblèmes & territoires” (Emblems & Territories)
“A journey through time across France’s borders, from the era of Joan of Arc to the present day. This exhibition explores the shifting boundaries of our country through the men, women, monuments, and feats of arms that have reshaped them—extending or receding beyond the ‘Hexagon’ we know so well today. Over the course of seven centuries, the silhouette of France expanded through conquests and victories, only to shrink under defeats and foreign occupations.
This mapping of France serves as a reminder that the struggle for territorial integrity initiated by Joan of Arc was a long-term endeavor. It shows that our enemies of yesterday are now our friends and partners, respecting the borders of 21st-century Europe. A journey through the defining moments of French history, open to all.”
